Paul Petro Contemporary Art is pleased to once again present new work by Toronto-based artist Stephen Andrews. Prepared text by the artist follows:
"That moment when you get lost in a crowd - when something happens that changes everything that follows - trying to recall events and getting it straight. This is a list of ideas that inform my current work and focus on the self's reconciliation of the social."
"The approaches that I take to represent these notions vary. There can be any number of stylistic choices; film strips, paintings or drawings. I don't think there is a single way in which to represent the complexity of current events. To picture who wins or loses. Who counts and who doesn't. What is right or wrong. I find that "teams" are a great figure for this conflict. The games they play are somehow a bloodless version of the war games fought on the nightly news."
