Rodman Hall Art Centre/Brock University and Paul Petro Contemporary Art are launching a new publication: Olia Mishchenko: Ravine World

Saturday, December 6, from 6 to 9 p.m.

Paul Petro Contemporary Art hosts a launch party for a new artist’s bookwork by Olia Mishchenko published by Rodman Hall Art Centre/Brock University.

Ravine World has been published in conjunction with Mishchenko’s exhibition of the same name that ran from January 25 to September 8, 2013 at Rodman Hall Art Centre/Brock University in St. Catharines. The exhibition was curated by Stuart Reid.

Ravine World is a portfolio containing eight panels comprising a reproduction of a new drawing that continues the artist’s investigation and documentation of ravines. These interlinked reproductions have been printed in black ink utilizing plate offset lithography on uncoated, acid-free, true white, archival book paper. These prints encourage the viewer to unfold, compose and contemplate an expansive vision of these intriguing spaces between the urban and the wild.

The bookwork contains a text by architectural historian and curator/critic of contemporary art, Kenneth Hayes. Mishchenko collaborated with graphic designer Rob Gray of DesignWorks Studios on the production of the book. Rodman Hall Art Centre acknowledges the generous support of the Canada Council for the Arts in the production of this book and the ongoing support of the Ontario Arts Council.

Olia Mishchenko is a Toronto-based artist who works predominantly in drawing. Her work has been exhibited widely in Canada and is included in the permanent collections of Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto, and the National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa.

Join the artist, curator, and writer at the launch on December 6 at 6 pm. Copies of Ravine World will be available for sale.
