Paul Petro Contemporary Art is pleased to present new paintings by Melanie Rocan. This exhibition is presented in conjunction with a new video work and photography by Dennis Day. By drawing on personal narratives and, in the case of Day's new video work, televisual tropes these exhibitions explore the inherent sense of hope and foreboding that accompanies a reflection on one's life and the sometimes firm, sometimes tenuous grip we have on things. Taken together, these exhibitions offer a dreamlike glimpse into the private realm of self-portraiture and lambent reflection.

Melanie Rocan is a Franco-Manitoban artist based in Winnipeg. She graduated from the University of Manitoba with an Honours BFA in painting (2003) and completed her MFA in the painting programme at Concordia University, Montreal (2008). A survey of Rocan's paintings, curated by Ann MacDonald at the Doris McCarthy Gallery, University of Toronto, Scarborough,(November 2012 - January 2013) is currently touring Canada and is now at the Kenderdine Art Gallery, University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, until April 26th.
